About Us

Pull up a stool at Watkins Glen Elks Lodge, and you'll quickly understand why visiting members keep stopping in. The building itself is a converted mansion on North Madison Avenue, and that history shows, from the high ceilings to the kind of rooms that feel like they were built for long conversations. Travelers passing through the Finger Lakes have described walking in as strangers and leaving with a list of local recommendations, a cold drink in hand, and a genuine sense of belonging.

The bartenders here have earned a reputation of their own. On the best nights, the bar staff are as much a part of the experience as the members themselves, quick with a pour and even quicker with a story about where to eat, what to see, and which roads to take around Seneca Lake. The Lodge holds a 4.4-star rating across dozens of reviews, and the word that surfaces most often is friendly, not in a scripted way, but in the way that only comes from a place where people actually know each other.

What We Offer

The Lodge functions as a full social club for BPOE members and reciprocating Elks from other chapters. The bar is the social center, stocked and staffed for casual evenings after a day on the track or out on the water. Members and guests gather here for drinks, conversation, and the kind of unhurried hospitality that is harder to find than it should be.

Beyond the bar, the Lodge supports community charitable programs that are the backbone of the Elks mission nationally. Local events, fundraisers, and member gatherings fill the calendar throughout the year. If you're visiting the Watkins Glen area and carry an Elks card, bring it. Show it at the door, introduce yourself, and the members will take it from there.

"My wife and I stopped into the ELKS Club at Watkins Glen on our way to dinner while on vacation last week. We explained that we were on vacation and showed my ELKS membership card. There was a bartender and three members at the bar. Tried starting a conversation with the bartender a few times and the bar was small enough for others to participate in the conversation. Short answers, not friendly. Met nicer people downtown. Wasn't worth the time to stop."

"Very friendly people. Elizabeth was charming. The members we talked to were very helpful and gave us numerous suggestions of places we should visit in the area. The building is an old mansion. I would describe the outside as a bit Adam's family. I understand there are 14 foot ceilings upstairs. There is a 14 foot mirror in the bar area. I had a shock top and my wife had a chardonnay. We also enjoyed the free popcorn. We are going to go back during the day as I imagine there is a great view of the lake."

"The first night we were there the bartender was fantastic as well as the other members. A few days later different bartender different members. There was another couple there the bartender stuck with his local friends. The other couple felt the same way. Much better the first time."

"Visiting the area and we were excited that we found an Elks. Definitely did not have a welcoming atmosphere as we had hoped. As we walked in at 7:15pm (we rang the bell he left us in) the bartender said ‘technically we close at 7pm, people are just finishing their food.’. Um okay, let’s get one and be done as most everyone else continued ordering. Who knows what time they really closed but we left."

A Proud Heritage

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
